023 Aqua Haze
Aqua is from the Latin word for water, sea or rain. Haze is a mist or fog, a slight hiding or concealing of the atmosphere. The suggestion of a watery mist in this sketchy monochromatic distortion of reality can be disturbing or refreshing depending on your viewpoint.
Aqua is generally pleasant. Articles on color psychology say it’s serene, uplifting, and tranquil. It suggests wholeness and creativity. A bit of aqua changes the “feel” of a room, an outfit, or a landscape. If I’d added green, truer blues, browns, reds, yellows, or grays, it would “feel” quite differently. It might be more interesting, maybe even better art, but most likely it would not feel as balanced. The intense darker shades aren’t serene, though. They add an edgy unsettled note for me. The whole painting looks poised to take off somewhere. Perhaps, if you look closely enough, you’ll see that it might have taken off already; it might be a floating landscape moving through the sky atop a cloud.
