Shall I forge new paths today
or walk where others trod the way?
Will I wrestle my soul into rest?
Still each straying thought
that fades out truth
to dim the pulse of now?
Today, shall trees form shade along my way
as shapes and things?
Or may I open wide my eyes and ears
and listening, see and hear
beyond these outer forms?
And may I pray to bring God’s Kingdom near?
May I let myself be lifted up into spheres above,
where merciful loving-kindness
links me with God’s love—
first in vast humility
and then in wide community.
Lord, join me to this earthy human world of mine
with eyes to see it through your mind.
Merge eternal life with time.
Maybe, if I listen, might a tree speak up, as plants have always spoken to wild creatures and the listeners who, once upon a time, most naturally knew how to courteously ask the trees for remedies, tonics, elixirs and food? © Ginny Emery
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food:
