From time to time we’ve all had messy stuff get in front of us and block our vision. It’s like this covid-19 virus— it’s messy. We don’t know what’s on the other side of it. And in this painting we’ve no idea what this vibrant green tree looks like behind the messy tall trunk and strange blue pole I painted before. We don’t know why it’s surrounded by such messy, blotchy splotchy circumstances. But that’s okay. The painting is what it is—even if it’s not a very good one. And our circumstances are what they are. Let us be green and vibrant and continue to grow in the midst of them.

Fortunately, God’s promises are what they are too; and they are very, very good. He knows exactly what that tree looks like from every side. He’s counted the needles on every tree; the grains of sand on every shore; He knows the number of hairs on our head. We can’t hide from Him—as the Psalmist prayed,

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? Psalm 139:7 ESV

And not being able to see is no reason to fear. God is with us.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 ESV

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 ESV
