JESUS’ WAS MOST LIKELY crucified on a rough cross of natural wood. Today, crosses are big business; amazon.com has 36,637 entries for crosses as wall decor and 171,807 results for crosses as necklaces. Crosses come in all colors, sizes and materials, but whether hammered of purest gold, molded from common clay, cut from cloth, created with glass, or designed in ink tattooed into human skin, a cross can never become a mere decorative item to those who know its love and power. To believers, the cross is a reminder of the willing sacrifice of the innocent Passover Lamb of God, Jesus, who
suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit. — 1 Peter 3:18
These colors are rich with meaning; purple for Jesus’ royalty; red for His passion and blood; black for His death and our sins; blue for heaven and healing; yellow for His light. As His beloved disciple John wrote,
. . . In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. — John 1:4, 5 NKJV
