MICHIGAN FLOWERS began as Canadian flowers. It was painted for a friend from Kenora, Ontario who lived in Thailand. She took a photograph of the painting to remind her of her Canada. Time passed, I moved to Michigan and hung the original on my kitchen wall. Then I realized that these Canadian flowers grow in Michigan as well. Natural ecosystems are a bit like the Kingdom of God; both ignore political borders; their living seeds cross boundary lines.
