THESE TWO CHICKENS bring a smile to my face and a reminder that much in life and friendship is collaborative. I painted the red, yellow, blue and green windows while thinking about futile human attempts to look into other worlds. It was a pleasantly vacant abstract painting. My friend, Lilli Miller, who paints too, also raises chickens. She added the chickens to ground the picture in daily reality. I don’t recall if she added the vine or if I did. We’ve both worked on it. I wasn’t happy with the chickens so she revised them. Then, when she wasn’t happy with their color, I changed it about three times and plumped out the white bird. We’re not fully satisfied with it yet, but we don’t know if we need to let it go, or if, perhaps like our selves and our friendships, it will continue to be a work in progress. I don’t need to know for sure. I know it was fun and friendship and that and we ourselves are His works in progress.
