At the Evening Sacrifice

Your eyes shine life
while our spinning globe
turns away from light of day
leaving skies aglow with gold.Your eyes shine life
over each earth turn—
Your sun lights up each day;
Your love casts constant glory rays
upon our human clay.Your eyes shine life
as hours uncurl
through tossing-turning nights;
beneath Your gaze a dawning light
hurls our darkness far away;
Your eyes shine into us with life.Over this travailing earth,
beneath Your piercing light,
each new birth grows bright with sight.© Ginny Emery
