Giving — Part Two — Jesus’ Eyes
Giving — Part Two
Jesus’ Eyes
Endless Quiet
I never saw such quiet.
I never felt such still.
I never dreamed such tenderness
could live in human will.
But as I looked within His eyes,
pure and freed from every sin,
I knew that every love on earth
begins and ends with Him.
_____________
Christ Looks upon His Bride
His eyes are endless, deep—
deeper than bottomless skies above.
They are quiet—as a heart complete,
and yielding with a bridegroom’s love.
They give more light than all the stars
across the heaven’s expanding night,
and glint with brilliant promises,
hinting unmeasurable power and might.
And yet, when He looks down on me,
gently, with a tender glance,
His eyes invite to cosmic dance—
and draw into divine romance.
______________
Fire in His Eyes
Your eyes are burning fires
from incandescent coals.
Flashings—hot and white—
pierce my soul.
______________
At the Evening Sacrifice
Your eyes shine life
as the turning earth
draws light into each morn,
throwing reflections rays
upon each opening day.
Your eyes shine life
as the turning earth
welcomes the gloaming night
with skies that glow with gold.
Your eyes shine life
as the turning earth
welcomes star-shine into night,
until all darkness flees away,
before the dawning light.
______________
Eyes Meet
Quiet eyes—
no fear or angry demon
peering through,
no ripple of anxiety,
no haze of doubt in You.
Quiet eyes—
endless, immeasurable
oceans of rest;
Creation’s energies
free from stress.
Quiet eyes
of covenant trust
pour Your Father’s
love on us.
Quiet eyes
blaze forth;
no force can escape
Your scorching.
Quiet eyes—
condense Your love
in focused power.
Draw us close
to watch with You
through this final hour.
“Eyes Meet” was originally published in Meet Me at the Cross,
Given Word Publishers, 2000, p. 91.
______________
Life-Light
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 (KJV)
His eyes shine life
with vibrant gaze;
Ten million scorching suns would be
thin whispers of His rays—
galactic brilliance pales
before His glorious ways.
Courses of crimsons,
vermilions, scarlets—
trail after the sun as it rises and sets.
His Spirit still hovers,
wrapping around the earth;
His blood colors cover,
all that He’s birthed.
His loving hand on clouds and lands
glows with gold
before night’s darkening ways—
and rises again with merciful touch
before each dawning day.
_____________
Quiet Eyes
Such quiet eyes—
Come, drink from His.
Let peace soak through your soul,
penetrate your sighs,
fill your fingertips with love,
speak pure words
into your restless mind.
“Be still,” He says,
“I am.”
Quiet eyes —
love pools from deep to deep.
Come, plunge within,
as a diver stretched to swim.
In faith press on
till all self-sight is gone
and depths untouched before begin
to open mysteries in Him.
His quiet eyes
will probe your own,
as you search His gaze
for any speck of doubt,
any haze of hatred,
any grain of sand,
any devious twinkle,
or narrowing fraud of man.
Vast worlds fill into frail flesh-skins,
occupy the space within,
exploring love’s expanse
of hope and trust again.
______________
A Searching Look
Our Lord’s look grows and lengthens
as the universe expands,
in full accord
with His eternal plan.
And day by day and hour by hour,
His lengthening look moves on,
combing through cities and deserts and farms,
searching in yurts, in huts and in barn,
finding hearts in every land
who seek and long to understand
His love.
Search deep within the darkness
hid in me, My Lord,
Look long and hard to set me free
from all (You see) that disagrees
with the beauty of
Your holiness
the power of Your purity
______________
Waiting Eyes
. . . thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon . . .
—Song of Solomon 7:4 (KJV)
Indeed these are the mere. edges of His ways,
And how small a whisper we hear of Him!
But the thunder of His power who can understand—
Job 26:14 (NKJV)
When I look upon Your face
Your eyes are limitless in grace.
Like quiet pools of water
under cloudless, quiet skies,
not a ripple or a stir disturbs your eyes—
Loves fires glow within your eyes
in steadiness
so far beyond my knowing
of all that’s pure and right
that adoration pours
through me
in wonder of Your light.
Your eyes hold depths of love
far, far beyond the sight
of all that human eyes might sigh to see—
or human flesh might bear
of Godly mystery
Words fail to reach where skies no longer breathe,
Words drown before they fathom depths
beyond imaginations’ seas—
Your love includes horizons—
that human eyes don’t dare to see—
transparent gold, embroidered
through the edges of Your ways,
threads of glory trailing down
from eternal days
and yet
Your waiting eyes speak love to love,
Your waiting eyes love me,
and all humanity.
Oh! Help our yearning hearts to find
signs of You in flower and field,
in family and friends.
Open our blind eyes.
Help us to seek and see
Your outstretched hand.
Grace our weakened souls
with faith and will
to watch with You
throughout earth’s hours
until
Your covenant hopes are all fulfilled.
______________
Finally
“Behold, I am coming quickly!
Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7
[Death and deception
cannot remain.
The justice of God’s reign
has promised.
Love will erase our loss and pain.]
See martyr’s blood
pour forth as tears—
pure stain upon His cheeks:
love’s fires flare and rise
within His eyes.
Caught as a bride’s breath
in gasps of love
at the power of trust
in the truth of the hour
feel His eyes burn with relief.
His day’s full-come
as promised thief.
His eyes blaze out
incisive heat.
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain,
for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3,4
“Behold, I am coming quickly!
Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7
