Poems from Meet Me at the Cross

IN TIME

Hear feeble cries
Against God’s time
By human minds:
Watch empires crash like toys,
Horns turn to tin,
Men revert to boys
Shaking sticks at the moon.

See angels come,
Sickles in hand
Answering prophetic prayer,
Trumpeting the time to men.
Abraham’s children will turn again,
Dry bones begin to rattle and rise
Under the reddening moon.

JESUS

Flesh?
Yes. Songs and sores.
Sleep and eat.
“Oh sacred heart now bleeding”
All man-defined was there.

Spirit?
You bet.
Angels sang. Demons trembled.
God Himself
In mad blood sacrifice
In birth and death
For you.

COMMUNION

I give my life to You,
You gave Your life for mine.

Covenant cup upon a tree,
Your blood for me.

Bloods mingle
In communion wine.

Eternal life
Pours into time.

Mine forever Yours
Yours forever mine.
