Write Truth

Write Truth

I would write truth.
Engrave it on my heart
with flaming pens,
of feathers
from Dove’s wings
set hot ablaze
by Heaven’s coal
that once upon a touch
cleansed Isaiah’s soul.

I would write truth.
Breathe life upon each nerve,
wash all that’s bent
from that primordial garden,
all enticing me to say
that I can get away with it
if I disobey.

These are the first two stanzas of a verse from Witness, an unpublished manuscript.
